E.A.T Danao: Caving

The best spelunking activity I had in my entire life was the caving at EAT Danao! (Extreme/Eco/Educational Adventure Tour)

I almost got disappointed because there were only 3 of us who were interested and they needed a minimum of 5 for the caving. And our schedule was at 1:00pm which we could not do so since we had to travel back home to Tagbilaran City to catch our Lola's birthday party. Luckily, there was a group of 4 waiting at around 10:00 am so we joined them.

Getting ready

This was the part where you will be introduced to your tour guides and they will brief you with the DO's and DONT's during the spelunking. According to the guides, there are about 78 caves in Danao alone, but only three are considered safe for tourists. For only P350, you can take your pick: the moderate (which is best for beginners like us) or the extreme or the super extreme spelunking adventures (which require special skills such as rappeling)

The caving

Welcome to the main entrance (and the exit ) of the cave named Ka Mira. It is 477 meters in length and history has it that it's been one of the favorite hiding places of local revolutionaries during the Spanish era.

To preserve its natural beauty, no ladders were built but only ropes were allowed to maneuver in and out of the cave. Since the cave is still dimly lit even with the use of headlights, one has to use a camera with a strong flash in order to fully illuminate the cave when taking pictures.

Each group was allowed to use only one camera and only the guides were allowed to carry it and take pictures. You don't have to worry because the cams are placed inside a waterproof bag so it doesn't get wet. I also would like to give credits to our tour guides for taking pictures. Wish I had their names so I can also recommend them to others. I like their service, they were kind and very knowledgeable about the place.

Astonishing stone formations will greet you upon entrance. Stalactites are found at the ceilings while stalagmites protrude on the ground.

You will also see the walls glitter with crystals everytime the lights from our headlights reflect on it. Like any other caves, it is also a home to bats and albino crabs but we haven't seen one. If you get lucky, you may also spot mud baths which can draw out the toxins and impurities from our body.

Aside from wanting to experience spelunking, I admit that taking photos inside the cave was one of the reasons why I tried it.  So when we were told that only tour guides were allowed  to bring the cams  and that  picture taking inside the cave was also controlled to lessen damage to the crystal formations, it seemed my world was torn apart! Because I thought I was going to miss all the good shots!

Unexpectedly, it turned out I was very impressed with the photos taken. I liked that one tour guide. He always let us pose for shots. Haha!

Now, this was the crawling part. It wasn't easy at all if you think it is.

If there were times we needed to crawl here, how much more with the extreme and super extreme spelunking activities?!? Imagine that!

We've finally reach the dead end where you can find the underground pool with very a very fresh and clear water.  Wow! It was amazingly beautiful! We spent more time of picture taking while swimming and having lots of fun!

More of our group pictures:

I really had fun! Didn't mind getting wet at all as long as I was extremely enjoying! Hoping to experience more adventures soon! Try it out, you won't ever regret it!
