SOUTHERN CEBU TOUR

Today was the 2nd day of our Basic Photography Workshop, mentored by Sir Benjie Ordoñez. T'was an actual photoshoot already so we traveled to the southern part of Cebu, mostly taking shots of different historical places and churches from the town of Argao to Boljoon then to Oslob. Although it was more of photo shooting historical places, we named our group as "Magic hour" since most of us are sunrise and sunset lovers and it naturally occurs during magic hours of the day: early mornings and late afternoons respectively.

But unfortunately, we weren't able to shoot sunrise and sunset during the trip because t'was actually a mid-day photoshoot and damn so hot! Nevertheless, it was a fun and memorable experience being with a group of different professions, who all share the same interest-- travel and photography.

OSLOB, CEBU

Our Final stop was at the Municipality of Oslob -- the 2nd to the last town towards the southern part of Cebu. We visited the Church of Inmaculada Concepcion (Immaculate Conception) which was gutted by fire on March 25, 2008. According to reports,  everything inside the church was devastated but the image of Mother Mary, the Immaculate Conception, survived. That was miracle, for me.

The Church  is currently being reconstructed and although there's still much work to do, it's progressing and the outside design of the church is still impressing.

Just outside the stone fence of the church and near the sea, is where an unfinished remains of the Cuartel de Infanteria stands or simply known as the soldier's barracks. It was started by Fray Juan Jose Aragones around 1800s but remained unfinished until the end of Spanish colonization.

An interview with "Manong"

After some chit chats inside the remains, we went out and happened to find an old man at the back.. While we were photo shooting him, he shared a little story of his life which made my heart soften and I felt quite pity on him.

The two photos below were taken by one of my batchmates, Reynald Geonson, while we were photo shooting the old man.

Overall, our workshop was superb! It didn't only impart ways and better skills on photography, but also a way for me to know more about the history of the Municipalities we visited and to interact with the locals too. Just like the simple conversation we had with "Manong", I realized no matter how tough life is, there's always a time for happiness and you have to find it within yourself first.

Here's my picture of "Manong".. with one of my favorite quotes by Phillip Bennet which certainly matches Manong's life.
