I've been to BayBay City, Leyte for the nth time now. Thanks to my best bud, Mitch, and the rest of the Zafra family who welcomes me all the time =) I'm already getting familiar with the places around including their market, the church, plaza and some schools too. I wish I still have the old pics with me so I can post it here, unfortunately, I lost them and what I only have now are my recent photos of their ever remarkable Visayas State University (VSU). I guess it's my 3rd or 4th visit. Aunt Thelma Zafra is actually one of the most eminent professors in the P.E Department and the Moderator of the Dance Troupe so she always invites us to visit her at the university every now and then. I also recall my Lolo Ninong who used to share his teenage experiences when he studied at the university during his high school years. He and Lolo Diony, Mitch's grandpa, were actually good friends way back high school.
I believe it was called Visayas State College of Agriculture (VISCA) back then, and later renamed as Leyte State University, then eventually became --
Visayas State University.
VSU is a leading agricultural university in the Philippines. Standing on plains and hillsides of the more than 1,099-hectare campus are 193 buildings composed of academic departments, research and trainings centers, staff and student housing facilities and other vital structures. It continues to specialize in agricultural research and education, including work in jathropa propagation for theproduction of biofuel and development of a dwarf macapuno coconut and root-crops, particularly, sweet potato, cassava and yam. The university also hosts a program on rain-forestation, and features an annual rodeo competition.
To improve human resources in the Visayas and nearby regions, VSU provides relevant instructional programs that best serve the needs of its target clientele. The various degree programs of the University emphasize the development of technical, managerial, and entrepreneurial skills of the students. Hands-on practicum as well as field training using state- of-the-art facilities and equipment are provided to enrich curricular programs in Agro-Industry, Information Technology, Tropical Ecology, Veterinary Medicine, Forestry, Fishery, and Food Science and Technology. Some photos of the VSU grounds in today's time:
I wish to be able to cover some of the university's activities soon. Not only VSU but other schools, colleges and universities as well if given an opportunity.
