BOLJOON, CEBU

After visiting Argao, we headed straight to the town of Boljoon-- it's the 2nd town next to Argao and it is 103 km away from Cebu City towards southern part of Cebu. The town's name is derived from the local word "Bolho" which means spring of water.

Since our workshop was all about  historical places, we stopped by at the town's Church-- the Parish of Patrocinio de Santa Maria.  It is the oldest church in Cebu with the remains of original stones that is well preserved. The Church's design was similar to the churches of Argao and Dalaguete except some rococo decorations on the panels and pillars.
If facing across the Church, located at the left side  is the Escuela Catolica.  By the name itself - which means Catholic School -- it was used as a primary school for religious teachings and used to  be a dormitory to those who were taking the First Holy Communion as well. Eventually, it then became a meeting place for various religious groups up to the present.
Below is the BlockHouse. It's made of blocks and coral stonewalls. In earlier times, it was called as "dakong balay" or big house but today, it serves as the bell tower. It rises high over the Rizal park.

At the back of the church is where the Church Cemetery lies. Most of the ancestors were buried there.

Across the church is the Rizal park which is overlooking at the Bohol Sea.
And behind it is the Boljoon Baywalk where you can stroll around and find several local kids in town swimming and diving from their favorite dive spot.

As I was looking at their splendid dive strokes,  I realized this is one way of expressing their "freedom". They remind us  to be free and never give up in anything that we do.
