Simply Butterflies Conservation Center : BOHOL DAY TOUR

I love butterflies and so does my sister. That's why we're excited to know that part of our day tour was a visit to Simply Butterflies Conservation Center (SBCC) in Bilar, Bohol. It's one of the recent tourist destinations in the province.

Just like any other butterfly sanctuary, it houses hundreds of butterflies. But it's a lot bigger and spacious and you can rome around freely compared with the Butterfly Farm in Sagbayan Peak.

The Center's main goal is to protect and strengthen the natural environment of the butterflies through plant research, breeding and releasing.  They breed common butterflies not only for exporting purposes but also to help fund the research, development and preservation of the host plants.

Inside, a tour guide will educate you in depth about the butterflies' life cycle,  its conservation and their importance to human existence . Entrance is for P20/pax while tour guide is free of charge. Let's now try to refresh our memory of what we learn at school.

In the life cycle of a butterfly, larva or caterpillars are formed when eggs hatch. See how colorful this caterpillar is. Though some of them bite, this one does not. :)

The Butterfly state of pupa is a total transformation from being a caterpillar to a beautiful colorful nectar absorbing butterfly

When the pupa has finished changing, it molts one last time and emerges as an adult butterfly. The adult emerges with its wings folded up against its body.

Many flowers attract colorful butterflies with their nectar and certain plants serve as welcome food sources for the butterfly and even for the caterpillars. These are examples of the flowers they eat. Wonderful, isn't it? =)

At the flower garden, butterflies fly around freely. If you want to touch them, you can have them land on your face. Man, it tickles a lot! lol.

In addition, the garden is well landscaped that you can see nipa huts for relaxation.

For souvenirs and gift shops, the Visitor's Center is the place to go.

Simply Butterflies Conservation Center built a community of breeders to ensure butterflies used at the center or the butterfly products expored from the island are made from sustainable hand bred sources, not captured from the wild causing damage to butterfly population. This is also one way to educate people on how butterfly breeding works. Let's help support the center to maintain and preserve the small wildlife.
