CAMIGUIN ISLAND

Discover Camiguin

Start your summer by taking a break at the island of the "BORN of FIRE" ... -- This is what Camiguin Island is commonly known as. No wonder it is named as such since it's been formed out of numerous volcanic activities several centuries ago. As a result, several tourist destinations emerged including the hot and cold springs, the ruins and the famous Sunken Cemetery.  Mt. Hibok-hibok is  also the most popular volcano in the island and is facing across the island of Bohol -- particularly the town of Jagna. So if you are from Bohol, you can take a bus from Tagbilaran City to Jagna then by boat towards Camiguin.

But since my friends and I are currently residing in Cebu, we took the overnight Cebu-Camiguin boat route instead. The fare was kinda expensive though- one way ticket via Super Shutte Ferry costs P900.

And so the following day, we arrived at Mambajao, the capital city of  Camiguin and went straight to Paras Beach Resort. Original plan was to stay there for a night, but we discovered there were cheaper resorts nearby. So we chose the cheaper ones--- Got an air-conditioned room, with  TV and bathroom,  good for 6 pax already for only P1200 per night.  Imagine that! Perfect and less expensive! Weee!! Well, what's more important anyway was the tour and overall stay at the island! The room was spacious and safe-- so we're all good to go. We then rented a multicab for a day tour for P1400 only.

The Island Tour:
•• WalkWay to the Old Volcano ••

Life size statues depicting the Stations of the Cross is found at the WalkWay to the Old volcano. That is why the the island is also a perfect place for Catholics during the Holy Week. As you meditate from the 1st Station to the last, it will direct you all the way to the topmost view by taking the hundred steps staircases. We only took pictures with the first few statues so we haven't had a chance to see the topmost view.
•• Sunken Cemetery ••
Right across the walkway to old volcano was the Sunken Cemetery which was swiped off by the sea during the volcanic eruption of Mt. Vulcan over a century ago. During lowtides, the gravestones are visible while high tides will only let you see the large Cross as a monument to those who died in the shoreline during the eruption. It might look spooky, but it gives a dramatic feeling especially to the families of the victims. You can actually take a boat to have a closer look of the monument.
•• The Gui-ob Church Ruins ••
During the earthquake and volcanic eruption of Mt. Vulcan, the whole capital of Catarman was scourged out resulting to the deaths of many locals and the ruins of the old Gui-ob Church, the convent and the belfry. Now, it has been one of the famous tourist destinations in the island too.
•• Ostrich Breeding Farm ••

First time I've seen ostriches in my entire life! Beware not to get too close to them.
•• J and A FishPen ••

It's one of the popular restaurants in the island. You can order the fish which comes directly from their Fishpen.
•• Katibawasan Falls ••

A 70 meter high cascading waterfalls found at the southeast part of Mambajao. Water is clear but not as clear as Kawasan Falls in Cebu. Although the pool was still inviting, we chose not take part of it due to countless of tourists in the area. So we just dropped by and took pictures.
•• Sto. Nino Cold Spring ••

A pool with very COLD waters that made me chill when I went swimming. T'was fun! Small fishes can be seen around the pool. Since the water is so deep, you can rent inflatables or what is commonly known as "salbabida" in our dialect.

•• Ardent Hot Spring ••
Still soaked with water, we went to Ardent Hot Spring. Yes-- it was indeed an exact opposite of how cold Sto Nino Cold Spring was. It is a natural pool from the depths of the volcano. The bottom most part of the pool was the hottest. My friends were really enjoying while on the pool but NOT me! Oh my! I really can't take it. The upper pools were tolerable but not the one at the bottom! Well, you gotta try it! ☻I believe you will love it as it provides therapeutic effects to our body too. But for those who can't tolerate the heat like me, never mind trying it. ☻
